Short Story Writing
Learn to apply fundamental elements of fiction writing
and your own distinctive writer's voice to the
discipline of the short-story form. There will be
exercises used to develop writing techniques for a
strong plot, distinctive characters, dialogue, setting,
and point of view while using an economy of words. With
in-class weekly writing assignments, you will create an
outline and weave key elements of the short story
together. Develop a strong theme and a problem/obstacle
to drive the action. Other topics will include
foreshadowing techniques, color, climax and the story's
resolution or denouement. Upon completion of this
class, you will have the essential elements of a short
story. This class assumes knowledge of introductory
fiction writing. For novice through advanced
